The United States is home to some of the worldโs most stunning and diverse landscapes. I grew up in the Midwest, and was truly astounded by the incredible beauty of this country once we left the region and began to travel.
There is a huge variety of landscapes, climates, flora and fauna, and dramatic scenery to be discovered in the US.
The National Park system does an incredible job of preserving this beauty for generations to come, and some of the most beautiful sights can be found within National Park boundaries.
It wasnโt easy, but I created a list of what I think are the most beautiful National Parks. Here are the 8 most beautiful National Parks in the US that you absolutely must visit!
Table of Contents
Yosemite National Park, California
Yosemite National Park is the crown jewel of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Famous for its dramatic granite cliffs, such as El Capitan and Half Dome, Yosemite also boasts lush meadows, ancient giant sequoias, and the thunderous Yosemite Falls. Whether you’re hiking, rock climbing, or simply soaking in the views, Yosemite will leave an impression on you that will last forever.
See my guide for hiking Half Dome for a complete guide to this bucket list hike.
Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
The Grand Canyon is a natural wonder that defies description. Its vast expanse, carved by the Colorado River over millions of years, reveals layers of red rock and stunning geological formations. The sheer size and grandeur of the canyon are truly humbling, making it a bucket-list destination for travelers from around the globe.
Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming
Oh, the Tetons. Grand Teton National Park is a paradise for nature lovers, with its striking Teton Range, pristine alpine lakes, and abundant wildlife. The park’s dramatic landscapes offer endless opportunities for outdoor activities, from hiking and wildlife viewing to boating and paddleboarding on glacial lakes. The rugged beauty of the Tetons is simply unforgettable.

Zion National Park, Utah
Zion National Park is known for its unique red rock formations, towering cliffs, and narrow canyons. The park’s diverse terrain includes famous hikes like The Narrows, where you can wade through the Virgin River. And of course the infamous Angel’s Landing, which offers panoramic views of the canyon and requires winning the lottery (literally) to climb. Zion’s otherworldly beauty is perfect for adventurous explorers.
Glacier National Park, Montana
Glacier National Park, called the “Crown of the Continent,” is renowned for its stunning glacial landscapes and crystal-clear lakes. The Going-to-the-Sun Road provides breathtaking views of the park’s rugged mountains and valleys. With its abundant wildlife and pristine wilderness, Glacier is a haven for hikers and nature enthusiasts. This is the first National Park I ever visited and it sparked my passion and goal to visit them all!
Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado
Rocky Mountain National Park features majestic mountain ranges, alpine lakes, and diverse wildlife. Trail Ridge Road, one of the highest paved roads in North America, offers stunning panoramic views along narrow, winding roads. The park’s varied ecosystems, from lush valleys to alpine tundra, provide a spectacular backdrop for all kinds of outdoor adventures. Rocky Mountain National Park is our favorite park to camp in.
Acadia National Park, Maine
Acadia National Park showcases the rugged beauty of the Atlantic coastline, with its rocky shores, granite peaks, and dense forests. Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the US East Coast, is a popular spot for sunrise views. In the fall, Acadia’s foliage transforms the park into a vibrant tapestry of colors, making it a must-visit destination.
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Colorado
I had to include at least one park that you werenโt expecting. However, if you have been to Black Canyon of the Gunnison you know why I included it.
Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is known for its steep, dramatic cliffs and narrow canyons carved by the Gunnison River. The dark, sheer walls of the canyon create a striking and unique landscape. This lesser-known park offers solitude and awe-inspiring scenery for those who venture into its depths, but grand views are also easily accessible for all along the scenic road at the top.
